First student-based neural tissue engineering workshop held at U.Vic.

Students in the Division of Medical Sciences at the University of Victoria Mechanical Engineering Department hosted the first student-based neural tissue engineering workshop on June 28th, 2012.

A group of 20 U.Vic students plus a number of UBC students (via videoconference) heard talks by ICORD PI Dr. Stephanie Willerth and Dr. Martin Jun from the U.Vic. Department of Mechanical engineering and Division of Medical sciences. Later in the day, graduate students Junghyuk Ko, Amy Montgomery and Nima Khadem presented short talks on their research protocols. Workshop participants also enjoyed tours of the labs and hands-on training on: electrospinning, stem cell culture on scaffolds and microsphere preparation.

The organizers plan to hold another workshop in 2013. For more information, contact Nima Khadem Mohtaram (nkhadem@uvic.ca)
