Mend the Gap is a group of 30 international scientists, including members of ICORD, working closely with people with lived experience of SCI toward a new experimental treatment for SCI. The treatment involves a combination of drugs and an injectable biomaterial that is intended to help nerves regrow in the spinal cord and improve functional outcome. Researchers are recruiting people living with spinal cord injuries to take part in focus groups to share their opinions and perspectives about this new approach, considering both the benefits and risks they present.
Why should you take part in this study?
Researchers would like to hear about your expectations and risk tolerances for the novel intervention so that development continues and dissemination steps are undertaken in ways that are best aligned with the priorities of the spinal cord injury community.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you
- are living with a cervical or thoracic spinal cord injury
- are 18 years of age or older
- have access to Zoom
Time commitment: approximately 2 hours. 1) A screening call (~10-minutes), 2) A pre-session handout to read (~20-minutes), and 3) A 90-minute focus group session.
Compensation for participation: participants will receive a $50 Amazon gift card
The study will take place remotely (online survey / video call)
