We are a research team from GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and the University of British Columbia’s Master of Occupational Therapy program. This study invites individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) and their partners to provide feedback on PleasureABLE 2.0, an updated version of a sexual adaptation manual designed to support sexual participation and sexual well-being after SCI.
Participants will review the manual and take part in two virtual focus groups via UBC Zoom to share their thoughts on its relevance, inclusivity, and usefulness. Feedback will help guide revisions to ensure the manual reflects diverse lived experiences and meets the sexual health needs of people with SCI.
Why should you participate?
By participating, you will have the opportunity to help shape a resource that directly supports sexual well-being and education for people living with SCI. Your feedback will contribute to improving the accessibility, inclusivity, and relevance of the PleasureABLE 2.0. Participation also offers a chance to share your lived experience and perspectives with others who may have similar experiences.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:
- Are at least 19 years of age
- Have a spinal cord injury (not required for partners)
- Identify as sexually active
- Are comfortable speaking about sexual experiences
- Are medically stable (not acutely injured or currently hospitalized)
- Are comfortable reading, writing, and speaking in English
- Have access to a computer or tablet and internet connection
Partners of people with SCI are also welcome to participate.
You may not be eligible to participate if you:
- Are under 19 years of age
- Are acutely injured or currently hospitalized
- Are unable to communicate in English
- Do not have access to a device or internet connection for virtual sessions
Time commitment: Participation will take approximately 3 hours in total: 1 hour for independent review of the PleasureABLE 2.0 manual (2 x 30-minute sessions), and two virtual focus groups (2 x 1-hour sessions).
Compensation for participation: Participants with SCI and partners will receive an honorarium for each session attended. This will be distributed via e-transfer for their time and contribution.
This study will take place at: Remotely (online).
