Stem cell tourism

Have you ever thought about going abroad for a stem cell treatment? ICORD PI Dr. Brian Kwon, along with researchers Drs. Judy Illes, Holly Longstaff and Vera Krahmova are studying stem cell trust and tourism. The goal of their Stem Cell Network-funded project is to explore the decision-making process among people who have sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI) across two groups: (1) Canadians who have traveled to another country for stem cell treatment (Travellers), and (2) those who have considered such travel but decided against it (Considerers).

By comparing decision-making between Travellers and Considerers, they will deliver new knowledge about risk perception, the formation of trust in decision-making, and interactions with physicians in this complex process. The interviews will be 30-45 minute and will be conducted in person in Vancouver or over the telephone or Skype elsewhere in Canada.
