Congratulations to Dr. Tom Oxland, former ICORD Acting Director, on receiving a Humboldt Research Award. This prestigious award is conferred to researchers “whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.” Dr. Oxland is co-director of ICORD’s Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics Lab (OIBL), Professor, Departments of Orthopaedics and Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Oxland is currently undertaking research with the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics at Universitaet Ulm, Germany, where he was nominated by Spine Research Head, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Wilke. This award will enable Dr. Oxland to spend up to a year collaborating with research colleagues in Germany on a subject of his choice. This award is offered by the Humboldt Foundation, which promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany. For more information, click here.
