In these modern times, what is the value of drawing the distinction between able-bodied and disabled athletes? Do the disability categories of the Paralympics level the playing field for participants and allow them to showcase their abilities or does it discriminate against them by conveying the message that they cannot participate in the ‘real’ Olympics?
In anticipation of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic of Paralympic Games, and in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, join us to explore these questions and more as we discuss and debate notions of ability and disability on and off the ice and slopes.
Dismissing the Dis in Disability is the first of two panel discussions in the Ethics and 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games series.
