This project aims to find out how older adults adapt to their power wheelchairs over a two-year period and how these devices affect important aspects of their lives.

Drs. Wolfram Tetzlaff and Femke Streiger’s study on the effects of  high-fat, low-carb (or ketogenic) diet on recovery after SCI was featured in Science Daily and PhysOrg.com. Dr. Tetzlaff presented the research project at a press conference at this year’s Society for Neuroscience meeting in Chicago.

Current Study: Manual Wheelchair Propulsion in Spinal Cord Injuries

Dr. Bonita Sawatzky of the Department of Orthopedics, University of British Columbia is conducting a research study to measure the forces put on the wheel when wheeling, to describe the wheeling strategies of adults, and measure how these forces change over various surfaces such as carpet, tile, and inclines/ramps.
