Project title: Effectiveness of a Wheelchair Skills Training Program for Power Mobility Users: A Randomized Controlled Trial (Wheelchair Skills Program; “P5”)

Researchers at GF Strong want to determine whether people can be trained to more safely and effectively use a power wheelchair.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • 19 years of age or older
  • Speak in English
  • Can physically operate your own power wheelchair independently for 4 hrs/wk

You may not be eligible if you:

  • Have a rapidly progressive disorder, significant visual impairment, unstable medical conditions, or severe emotional problems

What is involved?

Participants will be assigned to either an intervention or control group. Both groups will be asked to take part in 3 data collection sessions and the intervention group will participate in 5 training sessions.

Why you might like to participate:

Your participation in this study will help us learn more about how to administer wheelchair skills training for power wheelchair users. As a result of participating, you may improve your power wheelchair skills, which may influence your overall mobility. A stipend will be provided to you for their involvement.
